Virtualizing your Network
You've heard the terms before, Virtual Server/Virtual PC. What are they?
A virtual PC or Server is basically a computer within a computer. For example, you may have a Microsoft Windows Vista PC, but still
need a XP computer to run certain programs or hardware. With Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, you can run Windows XP from within your Windows
Vista computer by simply installing the Virtual PC program, and then install Windows XP from Virtual PC 2007.
Does my database server have sufficient storage space to support my growing needs six months from now?
How much money did my business lose when the web server went down for an hour last night?
Our users keep complaining their machines are running slow. Do they need to be upgraded? Is it a network issue? Or is
there a server problem?
While you might not be able to answer these questions, having a Richmond Computer certified network engineer to develop and manage
your IT strategy and execution of it will minimize your IT problems and keep your business working at maximum efficiency.
What is a IT Stratagy?
A IT strategy is the overall map that organizes all the considerations (i.e. goals, resources, constituency, allies,
opponents, targets, and timeline) to help guide the execution of specific tactics toward achieving clear goals.
There are several components and considerations that need to be developed in order to have a effective technology
strategy within a business:
Goals
What do you want to achieve? What are you unable to do with computers now that you'd like to do in the
future (e.g. work from home)
Resources
What resources do you have now that will help you achieve that goal? Are your current resources sufficient
to achieve the goal? Taking inventory of your resources will help determine how your strategy will be developed.
Tactics
what specific tactics or steps make sense to achieve your goals. Will your resources allow you to
organize an effective effort? Will a demonstration work in convincing your target?
Timeline
Once you have decided on your tactics, set deadlines so you can manage your time and plan tactics
according to schedules beyond your control.
